Lip Balm - Lip Balm Addiction
By rpalulis
Are you addicted to lip balm?
If you’re addicted to lip balms, then this article is for you. Did you know that Americans spend over two hundred million dollars a year on lip moisturizing products? That’s a lot of money spent on lips! It’s no secret that the lip balm business is a big business. However, what most people don’t know is that the major ingredient in most commercial lip balms, petroleum, is the very thing that causes your lips to dry out even more. From a business mind this makes perfect sense. If the customer has to keep reapplying the product, then they have to keep purchasing the product as well. Such a vicious cycle!
Petroleum is a mineral jelly found in most store bought lip balms that actually cause’s the very symptoms that it is promoted to alleviate. It interferes with the body’s ability to moisturize naturally. Petroleum does not absorb into the skin nor does it hydrate the skin like natural ingredients such as Shea butter. It’s hard to believe that lip balm addictions exist, but they do. Check yourself, or observe those around you at home or in the office, and you will be surprised how many are addicted.
Natural Lip Balms
Natural Solutions to Break The Lip Balm Addiction
The good news is there are natural solutions to break this addiction. Having a lip balm handy as the winter months are approaching is very important. This is why lip balms with all natural ingredients are highly recommended. Natural lip balms are much more than just tasty; they actually heal the lips without the addiction. The best ways to find natural lip balms would be from a local crafter who makes them, or to search the internet. Just be sure that the ingredients say petroleum free.
Unlike the skin on the rest of the body, lips have no sebaceous glands or lipids, two things that helps retain moisture. Ingredients found in natural lips balms such as Shea butter, beeswax, wheat germ, coconut, and jojoba help keep the moisture from escaping by slightly regaining the skins natural elasticity. If you are in search of a lip balm for therapeutic purposes and want to avoid “the addictions”, it is very important to choose lip balms that contain these natural ingredients and are free from petrol.

Wow thanks Darlene for sharing. One of the biggest challenges with natural products is shelf life. As long I know when the product was made I would rather have to replace more frequently than gamble with harsh preservatives. Thanks again for your kind complement and rating and sharing.
rpalulis, I use lip balm all the time in cold weather or I have chapped lips. I have been using Burt's Bees for a while now and I think that might be natural but I am going to check it out. Interesting article.
Funny thing my sister and I were just discussing our lip balm addiction over the holidays. I am VERY addicted to lip balm. I've been to your online store, I love the super healing lip balm with shea butter and the spearmint, mints are my favorite, they tend to plump up your lips and wake up your mind, plus kissable lips... I love your products, lip balms are the best. Gotta run and share this plus head back to your store to buy stocking stuffers, lip balms are the best stocking stuffers. Love and Peace to you my fave all natural product guru. :)
P.S. please let me know when the sea sponges are back in stock. :)
Oh and yes I did get the fact on petroleum as being the reason I feel dry quickly needing more lip balm and feeling more and more addicted. All the while the product was creating the need for more, what a marketing ploy, glad to have your all natural products void of petroleum.
Katiem2 Thank you so much for visiting our on-line store, your stocking stuffers are on the way. So glad you enjoyed the article and am sure you will enjoy the lip balms as well.
As far as sea sponge soap bars, we have lots of them, but have been asked to reserve a bunch for two big markets we will be attending, after that I will be adding them to website. If your wanting them sooner than later just email me with what scents and sponge you want and I can ship them out to you and bill you through Paypal. Otherwise it will probably be another 2 weeks until I get them on the website, hopefully sooner.
Thanks again!
Pamela99, Thanks for stopping by, glad you have found this article interesting. As far as Burt Bees, I just was made aware that the product may contain lead, something you may want to look for when checking it out.

I made and sold lip Balm, it was all organic and I used olive oil, sold it to hundreds of stores. Little did I know the oil will spoil over time. That was very bad news for me. I remember when I was addicted to lip balm, now I use a humidifier in my room in the winter and this seems to have solved the problems. Excellent hub, I rate way up, this is important product information. Love darski Oh I also emailed this to my daughter and all my natural friends. plus twitted it....
